Press Release

In our continuing effort to resolve some of the immediate concerns surrounding the prevailing crisis, a delegation of the Coordination Committee of the Naga Civil Society visited Guwahati and held a series of discussions with leaders of Assam representing various organizations and people’s initiatives from 19 – 20 May 2010. In this regard, the CCNCS has received the appeal made by concerned citizens of Assam in the very spirit of taking steps in directions “to ameliorate the situation as is prevailing today” and has been doing its utmost to go beyond mere damage control.

However, we are constrained to express our resentments against systematic provocations meted out against the Nagas through various hate campaigns, distortions of events and side-lining of issues responsible for the prevailing crisis and the over-riding emphasis of blowing the “artificial shortages of essential commodities in Imphal valley” out of proportions and reducing the killing of innocent students, injuring more than a hundred civilians and the displacement of thousands of women and children as non-issues.

Therefore, it is most important to recognize facts and acknowledge factors which are responsible for any crisis and address all issues in its actual perspective, if any genuine solution is to be sought. We would also urge people from various walks of life, who are leading discussions and debates to address both sides of the coins in its totality and not hood-wink the whole episode to enable the engagement of any positive negotiations.
