NAGA’S JOURNEY FOR SOLUTION AND ESSENCE OF UNITY IN PRINCIPLE
Th. Muivah explains to them in the meeting: ok, let us have one nation, one people, one government, one party, one issue, one tax and therefore, there should be only one treasury. There should no discrimination to anyone in financial management. Therefore, tax collected to one treasury has to be equally channelized to facilitate among all the national workers and manage the affairs. He suggested to forming one finance committee/economic council from the three different groups to manage the affairs of one national government.
To everyone’s surprise, Mr. Zhopra, the Vice-president of Shingya group stood up and suggested to maintain respective treasury until the solution is achieved. It was immediately seconded by Mr. Kitovi. At this point Isak and Muivah looked at each other with gloomy face realizing the death end of reconciliation. From there the FNR (Forum for Naga Reconciliation) could not go further.
At present there are more than ten factions with their own respective treasuries with their own presidents, prime ministers, army chiefs, etc. The mood point is can there be unity with many treasuries and different heads?
The GoI (Government of India) created many factions and multiple taxations in order to demoralize the Naga people on the Naga national liberation movement. The Government of India allowed designated offices to be opened and allowed to collect money. On the other hand, the Naga people started shouting without recognising the culprits.
It is a fact, if the Nagas are united; it’s a threat to the Government of India. For the same reason, beginning from Nehru, Nagas were divided and sub-divided.
During the NNC (Naga National Council) regime, there were no factions. The first faction was Revolutionary Government of Nagaland (RGN). This has nothing to do with ideological issue but simply an offshoot of frustrated leadership crisis problem. Expectedly it did not last long and surrendered. After the sold out Shillong Accord, NSCN was formed to continue the movement. Thereafter, the GoI mercenaries created many splinter groups-so called factions. The Government of India is responsible for creating many factions and the multiple taxes.
Unfortunately, common people do not understand the internal complexity of different factions. The questions arise and people are shouting unconsciously how we can pay taxes to all these factions.
Misconception notion with slogan are always patched and pleaded for unity saying “All are equal and working/fighting for the same cause.”
This created negative impact and produces more factions. Unscrupulous leaders claiming to be faction leaders have commercialised the Naga issue to their personal benefit in the name of national workers.
Human beings are all equal before God and laws but not in the work for the Naga nation. Among Naga factions, all are not fighting the common enemies for the same cause.
The Nagas are facing the problem “enemies within”. Some factions are in Indian camps and fighting against the loyal Naga nationalists tooth and nail even prior to 1997 ceasefire. Where were Kitovi or Shingya or Zhopra during those difficult times?
Do they deserved to be respected and facilitated with the same honours as revolutionary Naga leaders who fought tooth and nail and brought ceasefire for political negotiation?
NSCN fought single-handedly for the Naga cause at international level and also at home front, sacrificing many precious lives.
Does your conscience permit you to say that all are equal and fighting for the same cause? Shall we give the same credit to those who are also in Indian security forces camps?
Let us be reasonable and speak out the truth.
To be continued in the next issue…….
