PM assures sincerity to find honorable solution
Dimapur | March 2 : A three-member delegation of the ‘National Socialist Council of Nagalim’ led by its general secretary Th. Muivah today met the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at New Delhi. Qhevihe Chishi Swu, ‘speaker of Tatar Hoho’ and Tongmeth Wangnao, member of the group’s steering committee accompanied Muivah, informed a press note from Samson Jajo, “chief principal secretary.” The meeting which took place at the PM’s residence from 11:00 a.m lasted for 40 minutes, it was disclosed. According to the note, the prime minister reassured the Naga delegation the sincerity of the GOI to finding an honorable political settlement acceptable to both the parties at the earliest.
Later in the afternoon, the NSCN/GPRN delegation met Home Minister P Chidambaram along with a host of high officials at 1:00 pm. According to the note, the Naga delegation made the stand of the NSCN/GPRN very clear to the Indian Home minister, “despite the betrayal of the GOI one after another in the past more than one decade of political talks.” According to the group, the delegation categorically made known to the Indian Home minister that Nagas will not accept any imposition on the Nagas but only through negotiated settlement.
“Any insult to the Nagas will only drive the Nagas further away from the Indians”, the press note stated.
The Home Minister of India reportedly expressed his keenness and sincerity to settle the issue as early as possible. The meeting with the Home Minister lasted for more than 1 hour. It was also informed that formal meeting with the newly appointed interlocutor R.S. Pandey representative of the Government of India will begin on 3rd March 2010. Both sides have agreed to hold the talks with utmost sincerity for an early negotiated political settlement; the press note went on to add. Meanwhile the news media report about Mr. Muivah being not happy with the interlocutor is bogus, informed the press note from the Chief Principal Secretary.
