Press Statement

OFFICE OF THE STEERING COMMITTEE SECRETARIAT
NATIONAL SOCIALIST COUNCIL ON NAGALIM

PRESS STATEMENT

6th January, 2010.

The January 2 killing at Kijumetouma village might have happened as something not pleasing to the human feeling given the fact that it happens when the peaceful atmosphere of New Year still occupies the hearts of the Nagas across Nagalim, and when the hope of Naga reconciliation is soaring high. But when the incident is viewed from the national point it reflects an aggressive design of the Shillong Accordist of NNC/FGN. And when such motive of the group is remotely linked to the common political interest of the Nagas as brought before the Nagas under the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process nothing should come as a shock wave. This is the crux of the unfortunate incident which has invited wrong interpretation by some civil societies. But under these circumstances it has to be made very clear that no single party’s interest should dominate over the common aspiration of the Nagas.
All along NSCN has been quite receptive to the call of Naga people and the fact that NSCN has been faithfully listening to the voice of the Naga people under the banner Forum for Naga Reconciliation speaks volumes of NSCN not drifting from the common goal of the Naga people. It is pertinent to point out that the Shillong Accordist of NNC/FGN is not signatory to the Covenant of Reconciliation initiated by FNR, choosing to go its own way.

In the same spirit it matters a lot before the Nagas in pointing out the party who refused to be a party to the Naga Common Hope as called upon by the FNR. Political isolation is politically suicidal in the true sense of the term. But this gas been the misdoing of NNC/FGN(Shillong Accordist)as witnessed by the whole Nagas.

It became a matter of mockery when the Shillong Accordist of NNC/FGN went to the extent of celebrating Army Day in the Kijumetuoma village after having turned its face the other way when called by the Naga people for peace through reconciliation. This anti-Naga stand of these Shillong Accordist only exposed the true colour of the Accordist people, much to the indignation of the Naga people who have longed for peace reconciliation. Where is this party trying to take the Naga people?

It is clearly seen that the NNC/FGN(Shillong Accordist) is taking undue advantage of the change of situation by going for territorial expansion, and daring to celebrate Army Day under the very nose of the VP Battalion. No Naga Army commander will stand tom tolerates such overbearing intrusion. But the Accordist people make the blunder of ignoring the warning served by the CO of VP Battalion. And the inevitable shoot out did took place as warranted by the challenge thrown by the forces of Shillong Accordist. But the situation calls for the NNC/FGN(Shillong Accordist) forces to exercise restraint in its activities and stop the confrontationist program lest it invites undesirable incidents.
It is easy to condemn any killing among the Nagas. But it is equally important to ponder over the circumstances that led the killing. Because the over all interest of the Nagas cannot be put at stake under any circumstances.

All said and done the Kijumetuoma incident should have no bearing on the hard earned reconcile process as the NNC/FGN(Shillong Accordist)is not a part of the reconciliation process. The issue is purely an act of aggression and nothing to do in violating the spirit of reconciliation.
