Naga students protest before Manipur Bhawan
New Delhi, May 6 (PTI): Protesting against the Manipur government’s move not to allow NSCN-IM leader T Muivah to visit the state, around 70 Naga students today tried to gherao the Manipur Bhawan here this evening. The students, who came in three buses, also resorted to sloganeering, decrying the Manipur government’s refusal to allow Muivah to visit his ancestral village in Ukhrul district. “Around 60-70 Naga students came to stage the protest.
We have called in police to control the situation,” Manipur government’s Resident Commissioner in Delhi Shambhu Singh told PTI. During their protest, the Naga students demanded that Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh should be arrested along with Manipur Police commandos, who were posted along the Manipur-Nagaland border.
The Manipur government had declared that Muivah would not be allowed to visit Manipur but the NSCN-IM leader vowed to go ahead with his tour.
