No solution possible with one group: Pillai
Dimapur, February 27 (MExN): Even as the NSCN (IM) readies for talks with the Government of India in the capital, Union Home Secretary GK Pillai today said no solution is possible with one group only. With hope for an early solution to the Naga political problem, Pillai said the final solution can only come with the involvement of all groups in the peace talks. Pillai told Reporters that in due course, talks with other groups will begin. He said this in the sidelines of attending the 175th anniversary of the Assam Rifles at the Assam Rifle Training Centre and School at Sukhovi near Dimapur.
The Union Home secretary said the Centre is for an early solution but both sides should be sincere in the talks. “There should be sustained efforts to come to an agreement…we don’t want to drag it for too long,” Pillai pointed out. He said efforts are on to try bringing a solution in the next 12 to 24 months. The Home secretary said the Naga political issue is a difficult problem, so there must be an imaginative solution considering the aspirations of the Nagas.
Pillai further informed that Th. Muivah will be meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram in Delhi tomorrow. He said an interlocutor has been appointed for the same. Pillai hoped for sustained dialogue with the group but refused to divulge the agendas which would be discussed.
Several mass-based civil organizations including the Naga Hoho, Naga Council of Dimapur and the Dimapur Naga Women Hoho also briefed the Union Home secretary on the prevailing situation in the state and plight of the public. Pillai replied there have been limitations in the talks with the NSCN but the Centre would like to settle the Naga political problem with honour and peace. He said the PM is very keen for an early solution.
