Press Communication from Tangkhul Aze Longphang
11 May 2010

The Tangkhul Aze Longphang condemns the act of looting and destruction of properties of Naga passengers of a bus today who were on their way to Kasom Khullen, Ukhrul District.
The said passenger bus with the registation number MN 04-1484 was waylaid by a group of Meetei youths at Yairipok Bazaar. Despite the pleas and request of passengers, the Meetei youths dumped the belongings and properties of the Naga passengers from the bus. The youths then cut the bags
and belongings including essential food items such as sugar, rice etc and destroyed them. A police team intervened at this juncture and helped the passengers gather their belongings. As the bus proceeded, some of the Meetei youths chased them in another vehicle and stopped the bus again at
Keikru Leikai, about 1 km from the site of the first incident. The youths proceeded to again destroy the belongings of the Naga passengers again. Fortunately, a police team again intervened and stopped further destruction. The police team was kind enough to escort the bus a short distance before it then proceeded towards Kasom Khullen.
We thank the police team for its intervention and call upon the authorities to take immediate action against the perpetrators and also call upon the public to refrain from such mindless actions which will endanger the harmonious existence of different communities.
