Press Release

The United Naga Council is giving this statement to all concerned to understand the Talk (dialogue/tripartite) in the right perspective.

The Tripartite Talk held on 3rd December, 2010 at Tahamzam (Senapati Hqrs) scheduled by Ministry of Home Afffairs, dated Delhi, the 24th November, 2010 was necessitated by memorandum submitted by the UNC to the Government of India on the 14th September, 2010 in Delhi.

It is a known fact the Naga people in the present state of Manipur had rationally sever all political ties with Government of Manipur on 1st july, 2010 demanding the intervention of GoI for an alternative arrangement. The demand is devoid of any element (s) of anti-state/nation. However, to dilute the Naga movement and the term alternative arrangement, many are deliberately distorting its political face by terming, viz sovereignty to greater Nagalim, to state and Union territory and so on… for the reasons best known to them.

Nevertheless, the subject ‘alternative arrangement’ is political in nature. It requires political status from the GoI in consultation with the aggrieved party (ies).

Prior to any comment from the GoI pertaining to alternative arrangement, it is improper on the part of political party (ies), civil society (ies) or individual (s) to throw one’s presumption to sabotage the rightful demand of the marginalised hill people in Manipur.

Therefore, it is the wish and prayer of the UNC that instead of vitiating one’s another approach, it would be wise on the part of communities to address their rights on the table of the concerned authorities for consideration.
