PRESS RELEASE, the 16/01/2025: Condemnation against an Indian Army Commanding Officer (CO)

GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF NAGALIM

Ministry of Information and Publicity

CONDEMNATION STATEMENT AGAINST OFFICER COMMANDING (Wakka COB), 44 Assam Rifles Khonsa Battalion, Arunachal Pradesh

Oking, the 16th January, 2025

The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) has taken a strong exception of the ‘information’ served to all village heads of Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh by the Officer Commanding, Wakka COB, dated the 15th January, 2025. According to his information, it said, “There should be no recruitment of men by NSCN (IM), NSCN-K (YA), NSCN (Reble) and ULFA-I in your respective villages. Any information of such activity shall be informed to ‘D’ Coy ‘Wakka COB’, 44 Assam Rifles at the earliest”. The OC added in the information that legal action will be taken against the village if recruitment take place and not informing the OC.

Such a high-handed information served to the villages has nothing to do with the Ceasefire Ground Rules as agreed upon between the Union Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim. The main concern of the Government of India is about the reports of forced recruitment. To this, NSCN made things very clear that they have not and do not resort to forced recruitment.

In the light of the ceasefire ground rules, the information emanating from a mere CO of AR Battalion is absolutely disgusting and disgraceful for the Nagas of Arunachal in particular and for the whole Nagas in general. For the NSCN spearheading the movement to defend the historical and political rights of the Naga nation, this matter is an affront to the dignity of the Nagas. This has brought us to the situation to condemn the CO, Wakka COB for his information to the village heads on recruitment that is not within his purview. What is not his business he should stay away from such issue in the future.
